American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funding
Cities throughout California have a rare opportunity to claim a share of federal Recovery Act (stimulus) funding to advance clean energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals. The federal government is making tens of millions of dollars available to California cities through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program and the State Energy Program. Cities and counties can use these funds to increase the energy efficiency of municipal buildings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions attributable to municipal operations, and assist residents and businesses in energy efficiency and renewable energy investments. Effective use of these funds can reduce cities' operating costs, attract business investments, provide long-term economic benefits, and enhance working conditions for city employees.
MRW's team of professionals is available to assist cities in developing portfolios of cost-effective programs that deliver energy savings, greenhouse gas reductions, and/or renewable energy benefits. With more than two decades of experience in California's energy industry, MRW has the breadth and depth of knowledge to assist cities with the many strategic, financial, and operational decisions that are involved in developing these clean energy plans. MRW's assistance for your city could include:
- Development of strategic energy goals and project evaluation criteria in collaboration with city staff and key stakeholders
- Evaluation of specific projects according to established criteria, including analysis of project cost-effectiveness, energy savings, and greenhouse gas reductions
- Analysis of the city's electricity consumption patterns and energy costs
- Evaluation of the city’s current energy sources as a baseline for tracking greenhouse gas emissions reductions
MRW is a California-based energy consulting firm with a long track record of advising cities on energy-related issues. In the aftermath of the state's 2000-2001 energy crisis, MRW helped a number of cities develop strategies to reduce energy costs and proactively manage energy consumption. MRW has also advised many cities with an interest in pursuing Community Choice Aggregation and has assisted cities and other energy users in evaluating cost-effective renewable generation and energy efficiency alternatives. In addition, MRW has advised the California Energy Commission in recent years on major state energy policy issues.
